Functional Training for ALL

“The needs of our olympic athletes and grandparents differ by degree, not kind.” 

That is to say, everyone needs to perform an intelligently selected variety of functional movements at a level of intensity appropriate for that individual. Everyone needs to eat food that sustains, rather than harms, the body. This is the pursuit of fitness, and the ability to maintain that fitness throughout your life is a defining measure of health. 

So what are functional movements? Simply put, functional movements are movements that you perform in your activities of daily living (ADL). Thinking getting out of bed in the morning, stepping into your bath tub, sitting down on your chair,  getting up from a chair, reaching for that item on the highest supermarket shelf, lifting your dusty luggage down from storage, carrying your weekly groceries, bending forward to pick up your child from the floor, pushing the front door open, the list goes on.

Here I’ve captured the few main ones: Bending, Lifting, Squatting, Lunging, Pushing, Pulling, Twisting. 

If your goal is to improve general health, your workouts should focus on these functional movements & of course your cardiorespiratory health. 

All our workouts at Dfitzle effectively program these key movements in so you get well rounded balance of all these functional movements which will help build and maintain key functions of your body to allow you to live independent, and continually sustain and preserve your health.
